Daniel - Lesson 3
Excerpt
This week, we’re going to be going back to your children’s Sunday School class. For kids who grew up in church, there is no doubt a handful of Bible stories that they remember into adulthood. The story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace is one of those memorable stories.
Last we saw Daniel, he was elevated to a high position within the kingdom of Babylon, and he served in the court of the king. Last we saw Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, they all got job promotions as well. Last we saw King Nebuchadnezzar, he was thanking Daniel for interpreting his dream and he was touting the wonders of Daniel’s God as being the “God of gods. the Lord of kings, and the revealer of mysteries.” We are going to find out how quickly things can change when one is a narcissist. King Nebuchadnezzar, along with many others in places of authority throughout Scripture would fit the diagnostic criteria for having a narcissistic personality disorder. I’m sure most of you know what a narcissist is. But if you don’t, the simple definition is, a person who has extreme admiration of himself/herself. Perhaps you know one! When Daniel revealed the meaning of the king’s dream in Chapter 2 and that he represented the head of gold, I imagine the wheels of pride were turning in Neb’s brain.
