Daniel - Lesson 1

Excerpt

The hardest part of writing any study is where to begin. The book of Daniel can be an overwhelming book to read, just like the book of Revelation. There is so much to unpack and correlate back to other parts of Scripture. Daniel is a prophecy book and an apocalyptic book. There is no other book in Scripture quite like it. It gives an overview of history from the Babylonian era in which Daniel lived until the 2nd coming of Christ and it gives Gentile and Jewish history before it occurred. Daniel is a closed book. We’ll learn what that means as we get further into our study. From Daniel 2:4 – 7:9 is written in Biblical Aramaic instead of Hebrew. The other sections are written mostly in Hebrew but it switches back and forth. This is interesting. The texts of Daniel on the Dead Sea Scrolls were also written in Aramaic and Hebrew which further authenticates this book. We can’t even get past the first verse before we have to stop and put this entire book in historical context. Let’s begin there. Go ahead and read Daniel 1:1.
