Sometimes when I’m studying this book and thinking about all these people that Joshua was in charge of, I think to myself that it must have been kind of like herding cats! I’ve never herded cats, but in my mind, I think it would be a daunting task! With all those people, all those animals, all this responsibility, I cannot imagine a common fella managing all that! And yet, he did because the Lord was with him and gave him strength. The Lord was his strength.

As we move into the next several chapters, the land is divided and allotted to the 12 tribes. We might want to just gloss over them because they don’t mean a lot to us because they’re so very detailed and we don’t understand the details. It would be like working as a surveyor and looking at all those boundary lines and making sure that whoever occupies a piece of land knows to stay within those boundaries. These chapters might be boring to us, but they were not boring to those who were there on the ground in the Promised Land for this is what was promised to them hundreds of years prior when Abraham was...
