1 Thessalonians - Lesson 5
Excerpt
The above picture seems like a strange way to begin a lesson. The End is a peculialr topic, especially when talking about eternity. For the believer in Christ, we know that when we get to the end of one era, another one begins. There is no end to eternity. That is such a difficult concept and I can’t understand it. Yet, I accept it because Scripture confirms it. When I started studying the book of 1 Thessalonians, I couldn’t wait to get to chapter 4, the rapture chapter. What a glorious hope we have as believers to know and ponder this hope. My dad often jokes about buying some big-ticket item and financing it til the rapture! We know it’s coming. We just don’t know when. Chapter 5 picks up with some more terminology that is often disagreed upon by Bible teachers and scholars. The Day of the Lord is that term. Don’t get this term confused with the term the Lord’s Day or the Christian sabbath, the first day of the week. Let’s see what we can figure out about this term from our reading this week. Go ahead and read 1 Thess. 5:1-11. Does this Day of the Lord event sound like a happy event or a somber event?
As you read these first 11 verses, pay very close attention to who Paul is speaking about. Who is this book written to?
