Habakkuk - Lesson 4

Excerpt

Last week, we ended our study at Hab. 2:8. We’re going to rehash some of that this week. Go ahead and read Hab. 2:6-20. There are 5 woes in these verses. According to the Dictionary of Bible Themes, the word woe means, “grief, anguish, affliction, wretchedness, calamity, or trouble.” This dictionary categorizes woe as “judgement on others, self, or sadness over others.” (Manser, M., ed., Zondervan, 1999). In Scripture, woe is very often connected to sin. This word is rarely used in today’s vernacular. Somehow, I don’t think it would pass the woke test! Below, list the 5 woes in this section of verses. Don’t worry about the rest of the commentary. We’ll deal with that later.
