Excerpt

It is truly difficult to keep up with all the kings and kingdoms slaughtered in this book! So far, we’ve seen Joshua and Israel make a few mistakes and fail and we’ve seen them obey God and win! I’ll take winning over losing any day! The goal is to conquer the entire land and settle in it. We need to remember as we move into these next 2 chapters that the God who created the wilderness is the same God who created the land flowing with milk and honey. He is the same God who created the valleys and the mountaintops. Israel experienced their mountaintop experience once already when they successfully left Egypt. That mountaintop was quickly followed by a long stay in the wilderness valley. Sometimes we can’t help that we are in the wilderness and other times we can. Sometimes we can’t help that we are on the mountaintop and other times we can. Life for a Christian is ordained and ordered by the Lord. We never want to perpetually be wilderness Christians. Regardless of what valley of trouble we may be in as we go through this life, God always wants us to know and hope and yearn for the land of promise that is beyond this one.
In this week’s lesson we will continue to see the victories that God granted to Israel over their enemies. There is no doubt that when the kings of the north got word about what Joshua had done in the south, they began to strategize about how they could withstand and defeat the armies of Israel.
