Genesis - Lesson 20

Last week, we discovered that smack dab in the middle of the compelling story of Joseph, an interesting story about the indiscretions of his brother, Judah, appears. Friends, ya can’t make these kinds of stories up and I’m so glad that God allows us to view how others messed up and He still redeemed their lives. This week, we’ll pick up where we left off with the Joseph story. Read Gen. 39. Where was Joseph taken and what was his job?

One of my frequent prayers for myself, my husband, and my children is that God would help each of us to find favor with those who administer over us at work. God was certainly with Joseph. He was a prisoner and yet, he was in charge of the house where all the prisoners were kept. Can you imagine any prison in the country allowing a foreign servant to be in charge?!! That is exactly what happened here in Potiphar’s house. Potiphar was the lead executioner in Egypt…..not exactly a title most would want. I want to call your attention to what may seem to be a discrepancy in Scripture, but of course, it is not. Who does it say purchased Joseph for 20 shekels of silver in Gen. 37:28?
