Genesis - Lesson 18
Read Genesis 32:1 and then look at this picture. This picture makes me smile. I seriously doubt the situation in v.1 looked like this but who knows! We weren’t there to know exactly how those angels looked. We only know that Jacob knew right away that they were angels. Go ahead and read Genesis 32. Because the angels were in this place, Jacob stopped to camp for the night. What did Jacob do in regards to sending out messengers in v. 3-5?
Why do you think he did this?
Have you ever had a bit of a falling out with someone and after a period of time, you decide to test the waters to see if that person is still angry with you? I think at some level, we’ve all done this. This is exactly what Jacob was doing. If you recall, the most recent interaction between Jacob and his twin brother, Esau was not a good one. Esau threatened to kill Jacob. Now Jacob is trying to soften up his brother and gain a better understanding of how his brother feels about him. After sending his messengers ahead, what kind of message did they deliver back to Jacob in Gen. 32:6-8?
